There are countless reasons why people seek counselling. These can range from a general feeling of things not being right, to an inability to cope with distressing symptoms of anxiety or depression. People seeking help may be unsure of what it is that is troubling them or feel overwhelmed by a specific issue such as a sudden loss or traumatic experience. Relationships also experience challenges that require a safe and honest place to work through and resolve issues between them with the support and facilitation of an impartial counsellor.
WHAT BENEFITS CAN BE EXPECTED?
Counselling aims to help you have a greater understanding of why you feel, think and behave in the way you do and so allow you to have greater choices in how you live your life.
What’s it like?
Well, that completely depends on you as no two sessions are ever the same. My room is comfortable and private and the space and time that we have is completely and unreservedly your time. You may turn up and share lots of different important threads to whatever issue you want to explore. You will then pick one of these threads which we will explore deeper. The outcome in time will be the thorough exploration of each thread and how it interrelates with others. We strive towards a clearer perspective on the here and now and explore how best to move forward. My job is to make me redundant. Our time and the strategies we explore will be incorporated in to your personal kit bag, to be utilised throughout your life as and when you need and choose.
For those of you who would like to know how I work in terms of method; I work from the absolute foundations of Person Centered and then this is supported through Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness and Transactional Analysis. I utilise Art Therapy and Sand Tray as well as symbol work. If you have read my blog or articles, then you will also see that I have a real interest in the use of technology in supporting the process. This is usually discussed in our sessions and then resourced for clients to utilise what’s available in between our sessions.
