Unfortunately that is impossible to answer. One persons ‘Captain Golden Ears’ is another persons nightmare. We are all so unique that one size will never fit all. It’s a big deal sitting down with a stranger and being able to feel safe and supported enough to open up. Not to mention it costs. Only two people this year (2018) phoned up and ‘interviewed’ me for the role of being their counsellor. I’d have very much liked it to be a much higher number. My biggest recommendation is to phone up and simply have a chat with the counsellor you are interested in. Making that call is pretty nerve wracking but if the fit is right you’ll know really quick. Trust your intuition and keep going until you find the one for you, it’s too important to ‘make do’.
One indicator I use is simply do people come back. The graph to the left is a breakdown of this years average number of sessions per person in my own practice. The second measure I use as an indicator is where my referrals come from. Nearly 70% of new clients come from recommendations from past clients, I take that as a good sign too.
